
Head Office for Education and Vocational Education and Training (HOEducation) has the responsibility of educational provision in Galicia, it is responsible for educational standards, implementing the education and training, as well as, the planning and development of the schools. As part of the role, the organisation works with schools and school staff on the implementation of regional initiatives to meet school improvement priorities and to share in and support innovation in teaching, learning and school leadership. Its general scope of action includes the education authority at a regional level, including the design of education programmes and plans for all the Galician Community Region, with more than 1500 school institutions in all the four Galician provinces. It represents the higher decision-making institution of the Galician Parliament with regard to the education sphere at all levels: primary and secondary schools, adult education and different levels of Vocational Education and Training, including tertiary level.
HOEducation of the Galician Government has already coordinated a number of EU projects in different areas, including language learning, bullying and special education. Regarding climate change, further to coordinate this project, it is involved in an Capacity Building for Youth project aimed at “fostering environmental education amongst youngsters and youth workers, improving their knowledge and capacities against the challenges posed by the current climate emergency”.
HOEducation is strongly committed to contribute to mitigate climate change and foster environment protection, implementing different projects in the schools to fostering awareness raising in the Galician schools’ regarding the need of carrying out individual and collective actions to face this urgent challenge.
